Brief description of Albrecht Wild´s work:

»Bierdeckel sammeln« - (Beermat collecting) is the German equivalent of Trainspotting and Albrecht Wild)
collects beermats .... but wait .... there’s more!
How often have you toyed with beermats down the pub? Stacking, turning, fanning and rotating them?
Readily available in almost every pub these seemingly worthless advertising articles made of banal,
absorbant non-material undergo a singular and extraordinary process in Wild’s hands.
The »Beermat Maquettes«, to give them their full title were originally conceived as models for large
scale paintings. However, they have become a work group in their own right, spawning ideas and
paintings over almost a decade.
The material is dissected and then re-assembled according to Wild’s system, a process through
which it receives a new identity. Words are elongated and distorted, images shift and multiply,
graphic devices are facceted and broken up. Each unit can also become part of an enormous
overall pattern which can span several square metres, or even a whole room. For once the
shoe is on the other foot, the consumer is in a position to use the producer / advertiser, the
maginary line between high and low culture is blurred. So come and spot your favourite beer in
the drink galaxy.
